GERARDO CASTILLO

Graduate of the Faculty of Design & Arts of Nacional Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) with a Bachelor's Degree in Design & Visual Communication with specialty in Photography, Studied Fashion photography with the tutelage of Gustavo Prado, during this period I developed the project; “INFORME” a photography project that has been awarded with third place in Meridas Photofest and is now part of the library heritage of the Ancient Academy of San Carlos. And was also has been a part of the exhibit “Costume design at the turn of the Century” in VARSOVIA (2015).

In 2011 I was part of the contemporary photography seminar in the Centro de la Imagen in Mexico, with the tutelage of de Alejandro Castellanos y Ana Casas Broda, and other professor such as; Jesús Sanches Uribe, Ana Elena Mallet, Mark Allor Powell, Carlos Cazallis, Rémy Fenz and others. This became a turning point in my photography carrier because I learned how to embrace and create within new perspectives. Out of this seminar I developed MEMORIA OBJETUAL (Objected Memory), project the was later exposed in the Claustro de Sor Juan as individual exhibition in México City.

In 2006 I earned a scholarship for young creator from the FONCA in the modality for photography & plastic arts. Here I received the tutelage of Laura Gonzales, and in this year, I participated in a series of collective exhibitions, in which stands outs: PAUSA (PAUSE) in which we pasted 5000 photographs throughout the streets of Mexico City. We also developed CREACIÓN EN MOVIMIENTO (Creation in movement) in the library Vasconcelos. EXPO PERIODISMO (Expo journalism) in the MAF (Photography Archive Museum) and CINCO Dance Photography in the Centro Cultural del Bosque.

Most recently and part of the process of maturing in the field of photography, I’ve taken a course in wardrobe design with Andrea Pacheco from Nacional Coordination of theater in Mexico. I’ve also participated the TALLER DE FORMACIÓN DE IMPRESORES CON PROCESOS ECOLÓGICOS, a course that is specialize in darkroom fine printing with the pinter Lorena Alcaráz Minor from part of the CASA Center of Arts in San Agustin Oaxaca.

As a teacher and mentor, I have imparted various courses and workshops. In 2010 in the faculty of Engineers of the UNAM I gave portrait, lightroom and production design courses. Later on, I developed a workshop of Production and Portrait Photography for the C41 analogue photography festival in Queretaro Mexico. And have also imparted specialized Lightroom courses for the national dance coordination.
