ANDRÉS FIDEL R. A.
REALIST PAINTER AND PHOTOGRAPHER
Born in 1973, Andrés Fidel grew up in Mexico City. His father is a figurative painter. From an early age, he demonstrates an interest in art and literature. He studied with master sculptor and painter Gene Diakonov methods popularly called Classical Realism based in drawing from life, constructing the figure and the sight-size method. He continued his studies at the Florence Academy of Art in Firenze, Italy where he studied Academic Drawing.
He has shown his work in a variety of galleries and museums throughout the U.S. including NY, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Ohio. He has also shown his work in Habrin, China, South Korea and Mexico.
After living in the U.S. for several years, he returns to Mexico after a personal tragedy in 2017. He changes how he signs his work adding the letters R.A. in honor of his daughter. In Mexico he has shown his work in galleries and museums in Mexico City, Saltillo and Guadalajara. He also teaches workshops of drawing and painting the human figure.
His work is grounded in Realism and Symbolism. Andrés searches the character of appearances and their existential expression. His work is a form of Katabasis, a descent to the shadows to return in a type of Anabasis, that reveals in the surface its inner message. He takes as a starting point the human figure for its existential content, sensuality and its limitations and capacity for expressing both pain and joy. Introspection leads to the ambiguous reflection on human nature and its social and physical environment. His figures are not idealized. The psychology of the individual resides within the visual space, color and form which are always present in his artwork.
Since 2009, he also dedicates himself to photography. His photographs reflect an inner theater with aspects of pictorialism and symbolism orchestrated by light and the lyrical archetypal power of an image. It is a theater that attempts to be atemporal filled with masks, natural elements and human figures that share their spaces or reveal them.
